The Rawalpindi Traffic Police (RTP) have recovered Rs 59 million as challan fee during 2007 from 261,222 vehicle owners for violating traffic rules, said Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sabir Ahmed here on Tuesday.
Talking to journalists about the performance of the traffic police during the 2007, he said that licenses of 354 drivers were cancelled for violating traffic rules, while the route permits of 184 public service vehicles were also cancelled.
He said that 33,911 vehicles were impounded as most of the challans during the year were of commercial drivers and taxis. He said that 47,802 taxis were challaned during the year, while 17,526 auto rickshaws were also challaned. He said that 32,610 wagons and 755 public service coasters were challaned during the year. He said that 2,176 buses and 5,815 trucks were also challaned during the year.
