Pakistan's single country exhibition, probably largest to be held in Colombo, opens on January 11 to diversify existing patterns of bilateral trade. It will feature 100 Pak companies, representing 25 trade sectors, said Pakistan's High Commissioner Shahzad A. Chaudhry.
Trade potential between two countries is evident in trade volume in recent years, he added. Consequent to bilateral Free Trade Agreement the trade between two countries has significantly increased, he said.
While total trade increased from $146 million in 2003-04, to $264 million in 2006-07, exports from Pakistan doubled from $97.8 million to $200.7 million during the same period. However, true potential for bilateral trade and commerce can only be availed if business communities on both sides are willing to explore new possibilities in this endeavour, he said.
The Pakistan Trade Exhibition-2008 would provide tremendous opportunities to companies on both sides to explore each others market and share excellence of work and experience.
Jointly organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and the Pakistan High Commission from January 11 to 13 at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre in Colombo it will cover many business sectors, including auto, auto-parts, construction material, surgical instruments, hospital equipment, pharmaceutical machinery, home appliances, cutlery, kitchenware, cosmetics and leather garments.
