Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing of Jinnah Medical College Peshawar case till January 16 giving time to Attorney General to make proposals to solve affiliation problem of this private college.
The court had taken suo motu notice of not allowing 171 students of this non-affiliated private medical college to take Peshawar University MBBS examinations. Secretary Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) submitted in the court that PMDC had prepared a feasibility report for affiliation of all the unrecognised medical colleges in the country.
Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum, however opposed the Secretary's submission saying that the methodology being adopted by the Council was not satisfactory. He requested the court to adjourn the hearing for a few days so that he could make a comprehensive statement. The court accepted the AG's request.
The students had pleaded that though the college administration had collected large amounts in terms of tuition fees yet it failed to get affiliation or recognition from the federal government and PMDC to enable them to take examinations of the MBBS degree. A three-member bench comprising Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokar, Justice Muhammad Akhtar Shabbir and Justice Syed Sakhi Hussain Bukhari, heard the a suo motu notice.
