The Swiss franc was little changed against euro on Thursday as investors awaited policy decisions of the European Central Bank and the Bank of England as well as a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. The franc was near flat against the euro, trading at 1.6374 francs per euro.
The franc was 0.1 percent stronger against the dollar versus the New York close, trading at 1.1151 francs per dollar. Investors will focus on the interest rate decisions of the ECB and the BoE, which are seen keeping rates on hold, and traders will watch comments from ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet following a spate of weak economic euro zone numbers. "The ECB meeting will be important. It is likely that the ECB will remain hawkish and this will support the euro," said Credit Suisse's Marcus Hettinger.
"The euro/Swiss is still driven by global risk appetite. It is possible that the Swiss franc will give up its gains of the last couple of weeks," he said. Recent volatility in the markets has made investors wary about taking on risk and has seen traders moving into the franc, which is still seen as a safe haven currency.
