Philippine merchandise exports fell 2.0 percent from a year earlier to 3.95 billion dollars in November amid a downturn in electronics shipments, the government said Thursday. Electronic products, which make up the bulk of Philippine exports, dropped 4.5 percent to 2.422 billion dollars compared to November 2006, the National Statistics Office said in a statement.
Of the other key exports, garments plunged 20.6 percent from a year earlier to 158.76 million dollars and copper dropped 38.1 percent to 97.58 million dollars. Petroleum products exports grew 52.4 percent to 89.84 million dollars while furniture shipments expanded 13.2 percent to 87.13 million dollars.
November's total export receipts were down 15 percent from the previous month's level, it added. For the 11 months to November, total exports were up 4.76 percent from a year earlier to 45.8 billion dollars. Electronic exports from January to November grew 3.88 percent to 28.48 billion dollars.
