Caretaker Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ahsanullah Khan has directed all the petroleum companies working under the domain of his ministry to use minimum electricity in their offices in order to overcome power crisis in the country.
The Energy Saving Drive, launched at the oil companies across the country, will help cushion the impact of the energy shortage, the Minister said while talking to APP Friday. In his directions, the Minister has asked all the companies not to use more lights except those needed for security reasons. He has also directed the companies to use minimum heating equipment in their offices.
He said that though this is a symbolic gesture during the prevailing power crisis, yet it would hopefully help minimise the gravity of electricity shortage. The instructions will be followed in true spirit, he hoped.
The Minister said that more or less 218 million people visit petrol stations all over the country daily, adding the Ministry has decided to distribute pamphlets and handbills among them from these outlets in order to create awareness for saving energy.
Meanwhile, sources at Ministry of Water and Power said that the decline in water level and increasing demand caused power crisis in the country. Economic prosperity, electrification of 15,000 villages and setting up of more industries led to augment the demand of power, added the sources.
