District government Sialkot has initiated a comprehensive plan to introduce new agricultural technologies for increasing per acre yield of crops and attaining maximum output.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that under the said plan special attention would be given to effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system, and provision of sufficient quality seeds in the district.
Green houses would also be set up at Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district, sources added. They said that as many as 67 watercourses of which 50 watercourses in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas would be completed in the district. In order to set up agriculture laboratory three million rupees has been set aside while rupees seven million has been earmarked for the establishment of veterinary centres in the district, sources added.
Sources said that the work on ongoing seven livestock schemes costing Rs 5.87 million was in full swing and more funds amounting to Rs 3.167 million had been allocated during current fiscal for those schemes.
Special attention would be accorded on the repair and reconstruction of roads with the allocated amount of Rs 15.41 crore, sources said and added that 47 schemes would be completed under district programme while 12 road schemes would be completed through grants.
Initial development work on widening and improvement of Sialkot-Head Marala road costing Rs 34 crore had been initiated while the work on construction of a ring road would soon be undertaken for streamlining the traffic system in the district, sources said. They further said that Rs 1.22 billion would be spent on the repair and reconstruction of 122 roads in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district.
