A five-member bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday adjourned hearing of May 12 suo motu reference, petitions, and contempt of court application till January 25 as once again private complainants and members of the bar who are parties to the cases were called absent.
When the cases were taken up by a bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro, Justice Munib Ahmed Khan, Justice Abdur Rahman Farooq Pirzada, Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui and Justice Dr Rana M Shamim, petitioners including International Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (IHRCP), Iftikhar Javed Qazi applicant of a Criminal Miscellaneous Application and Iqbal Kazmi, petitioner were called absent.
Both the federal and provincial law officers-Advocate General Sindh Dr Faroogh Naseem and Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui-argued that SHC could not entertain suo motu reference.
The bench after hearing the sides held that as neither the President of Sindh High Court Bar Association nor the Amicus Curiae are present, hence to afford a last opportunity to them to contest their respective cases put off further proceedings till January 25.
