A joint e-policing project of Information Technology and Police Departments of the Sindh Government aimed at minimising the crime rate and strengthening coordination amongst various departments of police and provincial government has been initiated on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the Information Technology Department in Sindh Secretariat, the caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Alternative Energy, Jam Karam Ali said that e-policing would help the police department improve its performance and efficiency.
To a question about the timely general elections, he said that elections would be held free, fair and transparent as per schedule on February 18. While referring to the latest bomb blast in Landhi industrial area, he said that despite the deteriorating law and order situation in the country, the general elections would take place on time.
He urged upon the political parties to help the caretaker government in holding the general elections in a peaceful manner on February 18. About the alternative energy plans for meeting the local energy demand, Karam Ali said that the ministry was preparing proposals in this regard and the process was underway. The caretaker minister dubbed the introduction of e-policing system important and called it a greater achievement of the Sindh Government.
He pointed out that in line with the e-policing system, the CPO office would monitor the entire network of the system linking all police departments across the Sindh province.
He said that the system besides facilitating the police officials would also enable citizens to register their complaints online and get other information from the police department. It would help strengthen the relationship between police and common men by bridging the existing communication gap, he added.
The caretaker minister said that the system would also be installed at different jails across the province to record data and other necessary information of criminals.
He further informed that video conferencing system would be set up at the provincial headquarter offices of the Sindh government enabling inter-department live communication.
Enumerating the ministry's objectives and plans, Karam Ali said that there were many projects of the IT department which were currently underway including implementation of national IT policy, IT action plan, e-government system, development of human resource and its optimal utilisation in the IT's various fields, replacement of manual system with e-filing system etc.
He said that FM radio station of the police department would soon be launched besides a web portal. He maintained that IT department was also working on the computerisation of the Sindh advocate general's office record.
Secretary IT Department, Muhammad Zakir apprised that a tender for a hospital management information system for the civil hospital Karachi would be floated in a month's time in a transparent manner. He added that for the establishment of said system an amount of Rs137 million had been approved two month ago.
