The per kilo price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has jumped to Rs 120 per kilogram following its smuggling to neighbouring country. This was stated by the LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar while talking to APP on Tuesday.
He alleged that marketing companies were selling 11.8 kilogram cylinder at Rs 1,055 against the fixed price of Rs 764 per cylinder. He said the rise of Rs 309 against the prescribed price of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) had pushed the retail price in the market and this was expected to touch Rs 150 a kilo, if not checked.
Irfan said that LPG was short and marketing companies were selling it at exorbitant price and were not issuing receipt, and urged the government to cancel the licenses of marketing companies for over-charging.
It may be noted that the (Ogra) had fixed retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at Rs 63.25 per kilogram and Rs 746 for domestic cylinder of 11.8 kilogram and Rs 2,870.20 for commercial cylinder in urban and rural areas of Pakistan, vide its notification Ogra-LPG-17(87)/08, of January 4, 2008.
