Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed has spoken against a national government under President Pervez Musharraf, arguing that it will be useless as it will be unable to deliver.
He told reporters, after he met Majlis-e-Shoora of his party on Wednesday, that the general elections would prove a fraud, claiming that the President wanted to get results of his own liking.
He said the statement of President Musharraf that the coming elected government would be disallowed to change the existing policies should serve as an eye opener for those taking part in the polls. He criticised this statement of President Musharraf, saying it was a negation of democracy.
He claimed that holding free, fair and transparent polls were impossible as long the latter ruled and that component parties of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) were struggling for the dignity of the judiciary, the rule of law and the restoration of a true democracy in the country. But he welcomed a statement by the Chief of the Army Staff that all army officers must stop meddling in politics and meeting politicians. He then urged all political parties to forge unity to remove President Musharraf.
