Caretaker Chief Minister Ejaz Nisar has told the Parks and Horticulture Authority to plant more trees to turn Punjab into a verdant and pollution-free province. He said the current parks should be revamped and made more attractive.
"Cutting off trees should be avoided in development process and if necessary they should be transplanted in other places," he said. He said a campaign should be launched to encourage road and canal side trees plantation and added that laws of environment protection be strictly implemented.
Nisar, chairing a Parks and Horticulture Authority briefing at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Friday, ordered the authority to care for rehabilitation and beautification of recreational parks in the backward areas. He said such trees and plants should be planted to enhance the city's beauty and that these plants should be watered through drip irrigation and sprinklers.
He also told the authority to clean up and water trees and that installation of sub-standard hoarding in a haphazard manner must be avoided and the structural balance and standard of the existing publicity boards be improved.
The authority was told to improve the system of renovation, street lighting and sewage and sanitation of gardens in the Walled City. Authority Director General Raja Muhammad Abbas said his authority had effective measures in place to take care of historical and cultural places.
He said his authority had completed development schemes to beautify Maadr-e-Millat Park, Hamdard Chowk Park Township, Railway Station Park, Sabzazar Park, Wassanpura Park, Timber Market Park, Civic Centre Park Johar Town, Doongi Ground Park Samanabad, Sadaqat Park Shadbagh, the parks of Gujjarpura Scheme in Northern Lahore and Liberty Commercial Zone Park.
He said his authority had new trends of horticulture introduced in Lahore. Chief Secretary Salman Siddique, Planning and Development and Housing Secretaries Shahid Mahmood and Khizar Hayat Gondal were also present.
