Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has vowed to resist the caretaker government's move of evicting the residents of sector G-6 quarters. Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, PML-N candidate from Islamabad, while talking to media, said that his party would resist the move forcefully.
After the shifting of capital from Karachi to Islamabad, hundreds of quarters in G-6 were allocated to public servants. In 1963, almost 8000 families from grade 1 to 21 of public servants were given accommodation in this sector. Successive governments have time and again announced to award ownerships of the quarters to the occupants but did not implementation the decisions.
This process started with the issuance of notification during Zia regime in 1982. Later in 1990, the Ministry once again decided to solve the issue with new pledges. And in the recent past, the Ministry of Housing and Works issued three notifications dated 30 November 2005, 15 June 2006 and 14 April 2007 not to evict the widows and retired civil servants.
He said despite having clear directives to solve the issue amicably, the Ministry has issued a notification on 17 January 2008 nullifying all the promises and decisions made in the past.
According to the fresh notification, the widows and retired servants have been directed to leave their houses immediately. But we will not let the government to materialise its evil designs, he said. Fazal said the caretaker set-up cannot take such decisions but even then it is using powers and taking controversial decisions against the people.
