Terming the mothers' health key to the healthy nation, Sindh Minister for Health, Mrs Fauzia A Lari has lauded the efforts of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for mothers and new-borns' health. She said this while addressing a seminar in a local hotel here Saturday.
The Children Health and Education Foundation (CHAEF) organised the seminar in connection to the launch of its "Mother and Child Healthcare (MCH)" programme. Fauzia said that the education and health sectors could play vital role in the development of the nation and the country, urging media and civil society to cooperate with the government in these.
She lauded the efforts of the CHAEF to provide free primary healthcare to the needy and appreciated its initiative of launching the MCH programme at all its existing primary healthcare centres. She assured all her support and co-operation to the CHAEF in its activities.
The Head of the Gynaecology Department of Liaquat National Hospital, Professor Haleema Hashmi said that majority of the patients in Pakistan consist of women and children and therefore, deserve special arrangements for their healthcare. She offered her free services to the foundation.
The founder chairman of CHAEF, Syed Naeem-ul-Hassan said that the foundation is running 30 healthcare and educational centres in Karachi and Lahore and now launching its specialised healthcare facilities for women and children.
Free consultation, treatment and free medicines would be provided apart from the ultrasound facilities at all the primary healthcare centres of the foundation, he claimed.
The foundation, he added, has provided free consultation, treatment and free medicines to over 650,000 patients during the year 2007. Besides, the foundation is also running a primary school, several computer and vocational training centres in different localities, he maintained.
