The Punjab chief minister has pledged that his government will establish a healthy society with health facilities. Ejaz Nisar told his audience in the launching ceremony of the Minimum Service Delivery Standards for the health sector at a local hotel.
The launching ceremony was organised by the Punjab Devolved Social Services Project, that poverty, illiteracy and diseases were sources of medical and social problems, thus blocking the economic progress.
He also said his government had spent cash on social and infrastructure and was trying to revamp the health sector. Planning and Development Chairman Suleman Ghani, in his speech, said his board had taken up new initiatives for the public health and welfare.
"The Punjab Devolved Social Services Programme is one of the most pivotal programmes supporting the current reforms, institutional strengthening, capacity building and partnership building in Punjab's social services such as health, education, special education and water supply and sanitation. Huge amounts of the programme funding are allocated for improvement in health services in the 35 district governments," he added.
Health Secretary Anwar Khan said one objective of the health care delivery system was to provide quality health care and that the health department was using strategies including MSDS, adding that a majority of medical professionals knew of the need and importance for the minimum service delivery standards. Programmes Director Abdullah Khan Sumbal said the minimum service delivery standards were the product of a consultative process by stakeholders.
