Jamaat-e-Islami is firm on its decision of election boycott because it wants the supremacy of the Constitution and will of the people instead of sharing the illegal power structure.
President Pervez Musharraf is holding elections on US roadmap and the subsequent parliament will not be a representative of people when turn out in the elections would be less than 35 percent, said Rao Zafar Iqbal, Naib Amir of JI Punjab while addressing a press conference here on Sunday along with other APDM leaders.
Iqbal asked other parties to launch a mass agitation in case the elections were held and join the APDM struggle to remove Musharraf and restore the Constitution and democracy.
He warned that dictatorial rule of Pervez Musharraf was increasing dangers to the country's security besides creating internal problems, making the life "a hell" for the common man.
Iqbal accused that Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by the forces trying to prolong the dictatorship of Musharraf. "Situation in the tribal areas, Balochistan and Swat has been deteriorated by the secret agencies to implement Musharraf's agenda," he added.
He expressed sorrow that previous rulers, boasting of economic development, had actually extinguished the stoves of the common man because the fruits of development were transferred to only a few billionaire families instead of the poor population.
He said that price-hike, unemployment and lawlessness were multiplying the problems of the people. He appealed to the people to join hands with Jamaat-e-Islami and support APDM boycott movement to get rid of President Musharraf.
Iqbal said the JI had always raised its voice against economic and social injustices, and would continue this policy despite the state repression. He said that APDM had planned to hold its public meeting on February 4 in Multan to convince the masses for boycott of the elections.
Other APDM leaders highlighted the problems of the poor and working class and presented their reports on the issue. They drew attention towards the "black law" named IRO 2002 which posed serious economic dangers to the workers since it allowed industrialists and capitalist to sack workers without following labour laws and legal procedure.
