Intel Pakistan Corporation concluded its science festival here on Thursday, after holding science fairs in Sindh, Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan where young scientists projected their talent in science subjects.
More than 300 students and teachers participated in the festival from across the country in National Science Olympiad which is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). As many as 120 science projects were submitted by young scientists from different parts of the country.
Projects displayed at the National Science Olympiad were assessed by a panel of renowned judges for further selection in the upcoming Intel ISEF 2008 which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in May, 2008, says a press release.
The Intel National Science Olympiad jointly organised every year by Intel Pakistan Corporation and the Ministry of Education is part of efforts to contribute to the promotion of science education and research in Pakistan.
This private-public partnership is an endeavour by Intel Pakistan and the Ministry of Education to improve educational quality and literacy across the country, said Shahid Ahmed, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education.
Sharing his insights on the occasion, Ashar H. Zaidi, Country Manager, Intel Pakistan said from last two years, students from Pakistan have won awards for the country at the ISEF held in USA.
"This clearly indicates that there is no dearth of talent and skills amongst the youth of Pakistan and the Intel ISEF provides an ideal platform for the next generation of brilliant thinkers to excel."
Raja Ahsan Mahmood was declared grand winner for his project, 'Variable Colour Thermometer' and Muhammad Awais, for his project, 'Ultimate Control' from the Pak Turk International School Peshawar.
Winners of the group category represented the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School for their impressive project on drug therapy of Selvey Nano particle to cure MRSA infection. The team from Aga Khan comprised members Arif Pyar Ali, Zehra Suleman and Sara Moiz.
