The Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has announced to observe 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' on February 5 worldwide, including Pakistan, in a bid to raise the Kashmir case at international level and express solidarity with Kashmiris.
It has also announced to hold rallies throughout the country, including one in Lahore leading from Nasir Bagh to Masjid-e-Shuhda. "Women and children will march from GPO Chowk," said Lahore's Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Hafiz Salman Butt.
Jamaat leader Liaquat Balouch will make speeches to gatherings to be made up of activists of component parties of the APDM and the MMA. He has urged the people to participate in the rally. The party will also set up over 20 camps at different places in Lahore.
Hafiz Butt told a news conference on Friday that his party would try to tackle a conspiracy putting the Kashmir issue in the cold storage. He demanded a plebiscite under the supervision of the United Nations to resolve the issue.
About proposals floated by President Pervez Musharraf on the problem, Butt said these proposals went against the principle stand of Pakistan and Kashmiris. "The Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiri people," he added. He also said his party would support a government of national consensus but without President Musharraf.
