Sindh Governor Dr Ishrartul Ibad has said the government was giving top priority to the qualitative education and has raised its share from 0.5 to 2 percent of annual budget to provide better infrastructure, equipment and other learning material at all educational institutions.
This he said while addressing senior faculty members of the Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (Muet), Jamshoro, on Saturday. The governor said that various development projects at the education institutions were launched not only to provide better infrastructure and academic facilities but also to ensure conducive atmosphere in the educational institutions.
He, however, made it clear that the proper guidance of the students was needed both from parents and teachers to groom them in such a way so they could become the main source of national development.
Dr Ibad said that under the dynamic leadership of President Pervez Musharraf, the country was progressing rapidly in each sector of development and the confidence of indigenous and foreign investors have been restored thus resulted huge investment and also increased foreign resources as well.
He said that in order to boost up the foreign investment and create more job opportunity,. the government was fully concentrating on the development of infrastructure in each sector and has enhanced the annual allocation of ADP up to Rs 50 billion as compared to Rs 5 billion allocated in 2002. The governor said that visible rapid development is being witnessed in the health, education and social development sectors of the country.
Referring the mega development projects launched by the Sindh government in collaboration with the federal government at Karachi and Hyderabad, Dr Ibad said the Sindh government has also planned to prepare such mega development projects for other districts of the province as well and was in interaction with Asian Development Bank to get these projects implemented with its financial assistance.
The governor while expressing his satisfaction over the performance of Muet has stressed the need for activating more monitoring committees to bring improvement in the qualitative education.
He said the government's efforts for maintaining law & order situation has also contributed faster development and accelerated economic activities in the country. He said that keeping in view the prevailing threats of law and order situation, the government has adopted extra-ordinary measures with collaboration of all stakeholders to maintain law & order during the Muharramul Harram and also to adopt the same strategy to conduct forthcoming general elections in peaceful atmosphere.
Earlier, the Sindh Governor inaugurated the three development schemes each of new building of the Institute of Information Technology, new building of Communication Technology Centre, and new building of Central Library of Muet.
Soon after his arrival, Muet Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Qadeer Rajput briefed the governor about the development schemes and academic activities of the University and said that the all three newly development schemes have been completed with the total cost of Rs 255.779 million with the stipulated period, and added that these schemes would further improve the quality of education in the university.
Besides the faculty members of the university, Sindh University (SU) Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Lums Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Noshad Shaikh, RPO Hyderabad Fayyaz Laghari, DIG Hyderabad Commander Shoukat, DCO Jamshoro Ahmed Bux Narejo, and others were present on the occasion.
