The quality and standard of postal services in Karachi are deteriorating day by day on account of overall indiscipline and negligence in post offices and lack of administrative control by senior officials under Post Master General Sindh circle.
Whereas the public dealing timings of morning shift 0830-1500 hrs and for evening shift 1500-2200 hrs are displayed on notice boards of all General Post Offices and Post Offices but these timings are not followed.
In actual practice, the morning shift in most post offices entertain public after 0900 hrs and close at 1430 hrs. This follows one hour break from 1430-1530 hrs for handing-over and taking over charge between morning and evening shifts, ignoring public services.
Then evening shift starts attending public at 1530 hrs and close down at 2030 hrs sharp. The acceptance of Utility Bills, money orders and registered mails are not accepted after 1900 hrs on the pretext of absence of security arrangements by Pakistan Post.
Several Post Offices are handicapped by shortage of staff due to which usually one staff is seen performing assignments of 2-3 staffs. Delivery of incoming mails is delayed for days on account of either shortage of postmen or lack of transport for postmen to drop mails door to door in large areas. The outgoing mails received by evening shift at POs are cleared next day at 1500 hrs after 24 hours delay.
Many post offices are suffering from shortage of stationery, stamping machine, revenue stamps, bank staff to accept utility bills, registered post, UMS, etc in the evening shifts.
In this advance technological age, while public utility offices like TCS, DHL, ECS, etc have already switched-over from manual to computerised work, accelerating network, Pakistan Post is still stuck to 100 years old work in backward style. Many Post Offices have broken furniture, faulty electric system, insufficient ceiling fans, poor lights, dirty ground space, no seating arrangements for senior citizens. These conditions prevail in POs at Gulistan-e-Jouhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Drig Colony, Karachi airport (old terminal), Malir, PECHS, Karachi Cantt. Railway Station etc.
Director General Pakistan Post is requested to take note of the matter and take positive measures to improve postal services, quality and discipline.
