The Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Nawid Ahsan stressed the need for training on modern lines of investigation to effectively address intricate and complex nature of corruption, an official statement said on Friday.
He was addressing Investigation Officers Basic Course - V graduation ceremony at National Institute of Banking and Finance here. Nawid Ahsan said that Pakistan has approached some of the world most reputed anti-corruption institutions to provide latest training to the officers of NAB in modern techniques of investigating white collar crime and other financial frauds and soon a batch of 50 officers will be selected for training abroad. A formal agreement with the Asian Development Bank is expected shortly.
Nawid Ahsan has said that NAB was playing a pivotal role to rid Pakistan of the menace of corruption and its efforts have been recognised at the international level.
He said that it was a matter of great pride that a number of countries has requested the NAB to send some case studies to be followed as model by their respective anti-corruption institutions.
The Chairman NAB said that there was greater realisation world over to join forces to combat corruption as it has become a global phenomenon necessitating collaborative efforts. "The challenges posed by endemic corruption are not confined to a specific region and that was that reason that many countries including Pakistan have ratified the United Nations Convention Against Corruption", he said. The Chairman NAB emphasised that thorough professionalism and devotion to duty must remain the hallmark of the investigation officers while undertaking the onerous responsibility of fighting corruption.
Nawid Ahsan said that in past emphasis was laid on the enforcement alone and that was the reason that anti corruption measures has never achieved the desired results. NAB was applying a three-pronged strategy of awareness, prevention and enforcement in fight against corruption which has bored positive results.
