Government approves Rs 30 million for cardiac centre

The government has agreed to provide Rs 30 million to the Cardiac Centre of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for the treatment of federal government employees. The Minister for Health, Ejaz Rahim addressing the participants of workshop at the PIMS, said the Prime Minister has approved the amount to facilitate the federal government employees.
He said the centre would be equipped with all required facilities that were absent and compelling the federal government employees to move to other hospitals for treatment. Rahim said an integrated approach would be adopted to ensure provision of basic health facilities to the poor. He said the pace of programme running under the PSDP allocation would be further expedited to give benefit of the programmes to common masse.
Also he said steps would be taken to control child, infant and maternal mortality rate in the country and stressed efforts to get better results from the on-going projects in health sector. The minister said the ministry would make plans for capacity building of paramedical staff to improve service delivery in hospitals and medical institutions.
The Executive Director, PIMS, Dr Abdul Majeed Rajput said the institute would train 4000 officers of the National Highway and Motorway Police adding that the officers of the NH and MP will be able to provide efficient first aid, proficient in handling fractured bones and help victims of heart-attack.
Further, he stated the hospital has also planned to organise workshops and training courses for private organisations and community members. Moreover, the on-going training has been designed to enhance the life saving skills of the police officials who usually are the first to respond to emergencies on highways and motorways.
He said the training workshops are being organised with focus on first aid, preliminary triage, shifting of injured, and emergency life support like Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Rajput said the police officials would also undergo human relation skills training that include empathy and team work skills.
The course is the first intervention of the PIMS involving a major public sector organisation like the police. Earlier, the PIMS remained involved with training for various public sectors as well And private sector organisations mainly in technical health care issues.
