Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that completion of flyovers at Nagan Chowrangi and Gulshan Chowrangi have suffered some delay because of steel shortage, but by the end of March 2008 all flyovers and U-turns of Corridor-II will be completed and opened for traffic whereafter people could have uninterrupted drive from Sharea Faisal to Surjani.
He stated this while talking to media representatives during a visit to projects of Corridor-II and city's other development schemes at 2 am Saturday. DCO Karachi Javed Hanif, MD Water Board Ghulam Arif Khan, EDOs Works and Services and Municipal Services accompanied the Nazim on the occasion.
Nazim Karachi said that city government completed this Corridor at a cost of Rs 2.25 billion in a short period with the opening of Millennium Mall, Jauhar Morr and Sohrab Goth flyovers and one level of Nagan Chowrangi flyover for traffic. He pointed out that Nagan Chowranggi flyover has two levels to be constructed at a cost of Rs 500 million. One level has been completed and the other will be completed by the end of March.
Mustafa Kamal said that work on Karachi's development projects is going on round the clock and now city government is focussing on city's sanitation which has been outsourced to a noted Chinese company which would take over in April and improve the solid waste management system for which required machinery has started arriving.
Referring to various steps taken by the city government to provide facilities to people of Karachi, the Nazim informed that work on various projects is in progress under public-private partnership. He said work on 47-storeyed IT Tower near Civic Centre has started and a foundation stone laying ceremony will be held soon. He told media that this building would bring an economic revolution and provide 50,000 jobs.
Nazim Karachi said that 5-star hotels are under construction in Karachi under public-private partnership while work on elevated expressway is to start shortly. He pointed out that development of Karachi is the country's requirement. Pakistan will progress when Karachi will progress and the speed with which the city government worked during the last 2 years has made the citizens to feel that people can be provided facilities if any government desired so.
