Spanish police said they arrested two suspected members of Basque separatist group ETA on Sunday, both of whom figured on the 'most wanted' police list of ETA activists.
Oroitz Aldekoa-Otalora and Agurne Salterain could be linked to a bomb which exploded on Friday outside the headquarters of Spain's ruling Socialist party in the northern town of Derio, El Pais newspaper reported. No one was wounded in the blast.
Security is extra tight at present in the run-up to parliamentary elections on March 9. Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba has said he believes ETA will try to kill before the March 9 election. The guerrillas have killed more than 800 people in a four-decade-long violent campaign for Basque independence from Spain.
On Saturday ETA called for a boycott of the election in protest against what it called repression by the Spanish government.
