Advisor to caretaker Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Sardar Yaseen Malik has said that work on various alternative energy projects are in progress in the country to meet power shortage.
Speaking at a reception, hosted jointly by S.M.Muneer, Khalid Tawab and Mian Zahid Hussain on Monday night, he said that work on pilot project of energy generating from ethanol was in progress at Mirpur Sakro. Likewise, work on a solar energy development project was in progress at Islamabad. He said that Pakistan had a huge reserve of coal that would be utilised for power generation.
Referring to PSO, he claimed that PSO was meeting around 70 percent oil requirement of the country. Speaking on the occasion, President of Pakistan-Canada Business Conical N.D. Merchant said that the council had requested the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to send a trade delegation to Canada to explore possibilities of increasing Pak exports.
He said that it was right time for business community to visit Canada to explore trade venues Leader of business community S.M.Muneer said that the country was facing acute power shortage, and urged the government to construct water reservoirs on priority bases to meet water and power shortage.
He also urged the government to reduce mark-up rate and improve law and order situation to boost economic activities. Khalid Tawab stressed the need for strong government at the Centre and provinces that should complete its five-year tenure. Main Zahid Hussain stressed upon the government to initiate mega power projects to meet present and future power requirements of the country.
