Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has approved hiring the services of 30 regular faculty members for Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) and establishing a day-care centre for the children of the teachers at the college. The new posts will be advertised in the newspapers soon.
The VC made this announcement at a presentation on performance of College of Information Technology at Allama Iqbal (old) Campus. Professor Dr Najma Najam, Resident Officer, Professor Bashir Ahmad and other faculty members of the college were also present on the occasion.
Dr Kamran said the objective of hiring new regular faculty was to secure their rights so that they could concentrate fully on teaching. He said that those teachers who had not earned PhD degree should pay attention to get scholarship from Higher Education Commission and other sources.
He said that two years back, students of the college were bearing a lot of problems but now under dynamic leadership of Dr Mansoor Sarwar, a congenial academic and research environment had been established.
Punjab University College of Information Technology Principal Dr Mansoor Sarwar briefed the vice-chancellor in detail about the performance, academic programmes, profiles and activities of students, infrastructure, facilities and future challenges of the college. He said that the college had 50 full time teachers who are highly qualified as compared to two years back. Now the faculty members, include 2 Ph.D and 12 MS and M.Phil whereas there were only 3 M.Phil two years ago.
He said that the college had won National Programming Championship 2006-07 and contested in different competitions held in Germany, LUMS and Mock United Nations.
"To provide better facilities of internet services, 1MB bandwidth had been upgraded to 3MB and soon it would be taken to 4MB", he added. He said faculty development programme had been launched in collaboration with Punjab Information Technology Board and National IT literacy programmes for government high schools' teachers. Dr Mansoor said that with increasing demands and popularity of IT teaching programmes, there is dire need to establish new building of college at new campus, appointment of Ph.D faculty and introducing automated system admissions.
