Partly Facetious: positive side of Musharraf rule!

"I can't understand why the presidency still thinks that it's interpretation of the Constitution."
Published March 10, 2008

"I can't understand why the presidency still thinks that it's interpretation of the Constitution."
"A Constitution that the presidency had a field day amending..."
"Well, it wasn't just one day and one amendment."
"Don't be facetious."
"OK, but the point is now that the presidency is going to be ceremonial and the Bush administration may have at last grasped the idea that we don't have a presidential system of government..."
"Unless you amend the Constitution."
"That's right and military men amend the constitution because it's easier to control a bunch of Lota politicians elected for parliament, with or without rigging..."
"Correct, but don't forget the referendums that our military men are fond of holding at great public cost."
"Agreed, anyway the presidency says the parliament can't reinstate judges without two thirds majority and..."
"And some are saying that the presidency has agreed to reinstate the judges if and only if they don't hear cases against the President."
"I still don't get it, the parliament can impeach the President, the people of the country have voted against him, his economic miracle turned out to be a hot air balloon that fizzled out soon enough..."
"So why doesn't he make a graceful exit?"
"To put pressure on the country's constitution again and at a time when the politicians seem to be making a lot of sense and lets be honest relying on Kayani to forestall any move to dislodge him when the people have spoken and..."
"Sounds terrible but that's the way of all dictators they go feet first."
"Sad that, and I think he has said too much and done too much for him to act as the elder statesman."
"I agree but there won't be any graceful exit."
"Why can't the army...?"
"Look at the positive side: Musharraf alone has, for the first time in the history of this country, been responsible for all the parties to come together to form a truly national government - if this is not service to democracy then I don't know what is."
"Don't be facetious."
