"National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) products and services and its advancement in technology are highly appreciable and we have every reason to believe that Nadra's systems will lead Pakistan to a very promising future as a developed country."
These views were expressed by an Egyptian media delegation after a visit to Nadra headquarters in Islamabad. A six-member Egyptian delegation headed by Dr Hassan Ahmed Hassan Abou Taleb, Deputy Director Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies, Egypt, along with senior journalist visited Nadra headquarters Islamabad.
Nadra Chairman Brigadier Saleem Ahmed Moeen (retd) gave a briefing about Nadra's capabilities to the visiting delegates. He informed them that Nadra had a database of more than 90 million citizens, which was one of the most populated database in the world and probably the only one to use high-tech dual (Facial and Finger) identification systems.
"To maintain transparency and accuracy, Nadra has activated the Automated Finger Identification System (AFIS) to eliminate duplication and forgery of CNICs. This system can check one fingerprint against 16 million fingerprints on Nadra's existing database in just one second," he added.
The chairman said: "The multi-biometric e-passport project is another feature in Nadra's cap, the sole purpose of this project is to enhance national security by curbing illegal immigration." He said the state-of-the-art product had been equipped with the latest technologies in facial recognition and fingerprint identification systems along with the introduction of Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tags.
"Besides national database, Nadra has also developed other solutions, based on biometrics and RFID technology and has the largest information technology (IT) infrastructure in Pakistan with qualified technical and managerial resources enabling it to provide customised solutions to any country", he added.
He said that to ensure safe and transparent business transactions, Nadra had provided online verification system (Verisys) to the citizens through the kiosks, using which a common man can verify the credential of the person he was doing business with. This verification system is being utilised by the citizens through kiosks in large number.
Briefing the delegation about Nadra's kiosk, the chairman said: "This project was aimed at improving the lifestyle of a common man and provides solution to his problems like submission of utility bills, obtaining pin codes for various scratch cards, etc." "Since the kiosk system is CNIC centric, it provides a single platform to citizens for multiple programmes, the kiosks are packed with a number of services to facilitate the citizens", he added.
After the briefing, the dignitaries visited the state-of-the-art National Data Warehouse, ISO Certified National Identity Card Production facility and high-ended local and overseas Nadra network facility.
The delegation was also given demonstration about Nadra's various ongoing projects which included Secure Driving License, Automated Border Control, E-Toll, Kiosk and Vehicle Identification and Management System.-PR
