The preparation of Polaroid cards for new set of lawmakers will begin on Thursday at the parliament cafeteria. Side by side the work on collecting materials for biographical sketch of each member will also be taken on hand.
The bio-data would be placed on the web-site and later published by the National Assembly Secretariat. According to one official, a number of new elected lawmakers visited the Parliament House singly, or in batches on Wednesday, were warmly greeted by NA officials.
The official recollected that as many as 200 MNAs-elect were already present in the federal capital. They came to attend meetings with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, or for separate meetings called by PML(N) chief Nawaz Sharif. For instance, Nawaz Sharif has called a meeting of his party MNAs on Wednesday. Many of them have received flats in the Parliamentary Lodges.
After Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain administers oath to the new members on Monday morning, next day (Tuesday, March 18) the Assembly Secretary will receive nominations for the high office of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
The elections for the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker are expected to be held next Friday. Each nomination form has to be signed by the member proposed for the post, two proposers, as well as witness. The Secretary will scrutinise the nomination papers and compare the signatures of each single individual, who sign the nomination paper.
Owing to security situation, the Speaker has directed that invitation cards need not be sent to people to witness either the oath-taking ceremony or on the day reserved for the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
