The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) passed a resolution condemning republication of sacrilegious cartoons in European newspapers and a film against Islam by Holland. Talking to newsmen, Director of the Commission Father Nisar Barkat said, "Christian community expressed its grave concern over the blasphemous issue and expressed solidarity with the Muslims all over the world".
The statement further said that European countries termed this kind of offensive act as freedom of media, but press freedom did not mean the humiliation of any religion or belief.
He said that this issue had arisen again for not taking appropriate measures by the European countries against the blasphemers in the past, which encouraged the offenders to repeat the evil deed. Therefore, it is needed to prevent such incidents for maintaining peace and harmony in the world, he added.
Nisar Barkat, Director, the National Commission for Justice and Peace demanded that Pakistan should exert pressure on European countries, asking them to unmask the persons behind this controversy and apologise immediately to the Muslim World. United Nations and European countries should limit the freedom of press so that the blasphemers could be apprehended, he concluded.
