USDA cotton export sales highlights for latest reporting week: Net Upland sales of 42,600 running bales-a marketing-year low-were down 56 percent from the previous week and 83 percent from the prior 4-week average.
Increases were mainly for Turkey (10,400 RB), Indonesia (9,300 RB), Peru (6,100 RB), China (4,400 RB), and Thailand (3,700 RB). Net Upland sales of 1,100 RB for delivery in 2008/09 were for Peru.
Exports of 210,200 RB were down 22 percent from the previous week, but unchanged from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (41,000 RB), Turkey (33,700 RB), Indonesia (23,200 RB), Taiwan (22,200 RB), Mexico (20,800 RB), and Thailand (19,700 RB). Net American Pima sales of 46,500 RB-a marketing-year high-were primarily for Pakistan (10,700 RB), India (10,200 RB), Japan (5,200 RB), and South Korea (5,000 RB). Exports of 21,100 RB were mainly to Indonesia (5,400 RB), Pakistan (3,600 RB), China (3,300 RB), India (2,600 RB), and Peru (1,500 RB).
UPLAND COTTON: The US Agriculture Department set the prevailing world market price for upland cotton at 65.07 cents per pound, effective through March 20. The price is adjusted to US quality and location for Strict Low Middling, 1-1/16 inch upland cotton.
