All channels and resources are being mobilised for creating awareness among the consumers about the protection and promotion of consumers' rights and in this regard consumers court has already been established in Sialkot, said District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Sialkot Captain Atta Muhammad Khan (Retd).
Addressing a seminar held in connection with Consumer Protection Right Day held on Saturday here, he said that district consumer court was positive and effective role in extending maximum relief to the consumers in Sialkot district. The concept of setting up consumer courts was to discourage the substandard articles of daily use and defective services to the masses, he said.
The district co-ordination officer further said that the provision of quality articles of daily use and better services was on top on the agenda of the government. In this regard the Punjab Consumer Protection Act 2005 has been practically implemented for ensuring the availability of standard products and services and to eliminate the practice of substandard products and defective services from Sialkot district, DCO disclosed.
Speaking on the occasion Incharge District Consumer Court Tariq Mehmood Khan said that people could complaint about the sale of substandard commodities and provision of defective service easily. The consumers complaints against articles of daily use, medicines, petroleum, textile, hosiery products, vehicles of all kind, building material, electronic products and cosmetics and service like health, education, engineering, banking and radio, water, electricity, Sui gas, telephone, internet and mobile phones are worth hearing, he added.
The government was making adequate efforts to create awareness among the consumers about their rights and to ensure quality articles of daily use and other commodities to the people. It is high time that consumers should come forward and extends their co-operation for purging menace of the sale of sub-standard articles and defective services from the society, sources added.
