Extra-curriculum activities are also part of students' education and they must participate in them. This was stated by Principal of Govt. City College F.B. Area, Professor Pyarai Ali Lalani while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of Students' Sports Week 2008.
He stressed the students that they must utilise their leisure in taking part in sports and learning computer despite wasting their time in immoral and unhealthy activities. "I am feeling pleasure in telling you that a large number of students including the degree students have participated in the games and shown good performance," he said.
Professor Lalani said that the students of Govt City College had achieved great successes in their practical life and present Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad was among them as he was also student of this college.
Participation in sport activities not only provides entertainment to students but also teaches them discipline and tolerance, he observed. Lalani also announced the establishment of a memorial library in the name of former principal Professor Sheikh Zaki Uddin (Late) in the college.
He further said that he wanted to see this college among the best educational institutions of the metropolis and needed co-operation of teachers, students and particularly parents to achieve this target. DEO College (Retd) and Educationist Professor Haroon Rasheed also spoke on this occasion and urged the students that they must focus only their education and avoid involving in politics as it was very important time for their education and future.
He also congratulated the college administration and teachers for arranging such a good programme. Old Students City College Association President M.A.K Azmati and Principal of Premier Girls College Professor Munnawara Nuzhat also addressed to the gathering.
Karachi Board of Intermediate Education Controller Agha Akbar Mirza, Principal of Govt Commerce College Jalal Uddin Chohan, government and private colleges' principals and teachers and a large number of students also attended the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony the prizes and medals were distributed among successful students of the Sport Week.-PR
