Partly Facetious: lessons learned in service to military

"Farooq Sattar is the candidate for the prime minister's slot."
Published March 19, 2008

"Farooq Sattar is the candidate for the prime minister's slot."
"How is that possible? He is an MQM guy and last I heard MQM had decided to sit in the Opposition."
"Right, but Musharraf's former Lota party..."
"Right, the PML (Q) standing for the Punjabi Manifesto-less Lotas (Quisling) are also sitting in the Opposition."
"Exactly and the two have together fielded Sattar as their candidate for the post of prime minister."
"But didn't we hear that Pervez Elahi wanted the post of the prime minister, which is why the Chosen One was sent a packing?"
"Correct however he wanted to get the post, not to be merely a candidate that no one believes will actually get the portfolio so to speak."
"Ah yes. So why did the MQM accept the nomination? I mean from what we have seen in the past the MQM leadership is sensitive to not losing face and this is nothing but a face loss..."
"How is this loss of face?"
"Well, it's obvious that the PML (quislings) are pretty sure that their man is unlikely to sit in the prime minister's house so they opted for Sattar."
"Right but in politics there is no such thing as pride...only the leaders have some pride, the rest are instructed and follow orders."
"Pretty much like the military."
"Yes which is where these politicians have received their training as far as obedience to orders is concerned..."
"Don't know any politician who has been in the military."
"I didn't say they learned it by joining the military."
"What did you mean?"
"These politicians learned it while being ruled by military men."
"Ah yes."
