Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif has stressed the need for reviewing the ongoing policies, and showed optimism that the policies, to be framed by the newly elected Parliament, would be beneficial for the country.
He said this while talking to reporters at Zaman Park residence of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan here on Saturday. Nawaz visited Imran's residence to condole the death of his father Ikramullah Khan Niazi. He remained there for some time and also offered Fateha for the eternal peace of departed soul.
To a query regarding Zardari-Altaf telephonic contact, Nawaz said that his party soon after the general elections had accepted the right of the Pakistan People's Party with regard to formation of its government. He said the PPP leadership had taken them PML-N on board about this contact.
Regarding nomination of the candidate for the slot of new prime minister, Nawaz said: "We would accept the PPP nominated candidate for the office of prime minister." Talking about operation in tribal areas, Nawaz said: "We need to review this policy. War is being fought against people of the country. I did not agree with this philosophy because no country kills its own people."
He also said: "We need to ponder that what the country as well as world had taken benefit from the policy currently being followed." He further said that days of dictatorship were numbered and Pervez Musharraf should realise the situation. "Two-third majority had not only been achieved by the coalition partners in the Parliament, but the number is over and above the two-third majority, he said.
Nawaz further said that he had received a telephone from the US Deputy Secretary of State John Negro Ponte. "We would hold a meeting for which time and date is yet to be decided. During this meeting, matters pertaining to war against terrorism would be discussed and we will apprise him about own point of view on this war," he said.
Imran Khan, speaking on the occasion, told reporters that the ongoing operation in tribal areas should be stopped. He said people had no faith on the governmental policies. Answering a question about All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and restoration of judges, Imran said both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and All Parties Democratic Movement wanted restoration of judges.
