President Pervez Musharraf has said that country was 'standing at the cross roads of historic changes and civilisation challenges that call for greater demonstration of national unity, interfaith harmony and immaculate self-discipline'.
In his message on Pakistan Day on March 23 being celebrated on Sunday, the President said 'we have come a long way, but there is much more to be covered. He said the vast majority of Pakistanis are hardworking, patriotic and moderate, who wish to see the progress of the country and attain its rightful place in the comity of nations. They need to stand up and be counted, the President observed.
The President stressed the need to demonstrate Unity, Faith and Discipline, the guiding principles given to us by the Quaid-i-Azam. "We have the solution, we have the determination and we will not fail, the President", the president observed.
The President greeted the nation on Pakistan Day, which is a truly historic milestone in our nation's quest for independence. It was on this day that the Muslims of South Asia resolved to carve out an independent homeland for themselves, a land where they could live in peace and harmony in accordance with the tenets of Islam, free from repression and subjugation, he added.
"It was the unanimous will of the Muslims of South Asia under the dynamic leadership of Qauid-e-Azaom Muahammad Ali Jinnah which resulted in the creation of Pakistan", said the President.
"From that momentous day in 1940, our nation has come a long way. Having attained independence on August 14, 1947 against seemingly insurmountable odds, our country has been confronted with many challenges both external and internal in the post independence period", he said.
He said the problems have indeed been many as well as complex. It must certainly goes to the credit of the Pakistani nation that we have always risen to the occasion and successfully overcome adversity by demonstrating patriotism, steadfastness, resilience and unswerving faith in Almighty Allah.
Meanwhile, Care-taker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro has said that the present environment demands from us to place national unity and integrity above every thing else. In his Pakistan Day message on March 23, he said, if we want to build a prosperous and stable future, we will have to shed petty differences and controversies and subordinate our personal and parochial wishes to the higher values of life that Unity, Faith and Discipline demand from us.
He said , "We are celebrating the 68th anniversary of the passing of the historical Pakistan Resolution. On this day in 1940, the Muslims of the sub-continent vowed to create an independent homeland, where they could live in accordance with their religious cultural and intellectual inspirations.
