The Saarc Chamber will hold a two-day seminar on Economic Freedom scheduled for April 15-16 in Lahore. This was decided by the Saarc Chamber during a meeting held in Kathmandu on April 2. Saarc Chamber President Tariq Sayeed and Vice-President Iftikhar Ali Malik, along with Shehzada Alam, life member of the Saarc Chamber and former president attended the meeting in Kathmandu (Nepal) on April 2.
Sayeed, Malik and Alam also met with Sheelkant Sharma newly appointed Saarc secretary-general and discussed forthcoming activities of the Saarc Chamber in Pakistan, including executive committee meeting and a seminar on Economic Freedom from April 15 to 16, 2008 in Lahore.
Sayeed appreciated the efforts of the Saarc Secretariat for inclusion of services sector in agreement of Safta that will boost the economic co-operation in the region. He also discussed and proposed for increasing the number of 100 Saarc visa exemption stickers to 200 for each member-country and liberalising visa issuance policy in the Saarc region.
He explained to the Saarc secretary-general the constraints in doing business in the region. The Saarc secretary-general informed that he will be visiting all Saarc member countries in future and will specially visit Pakistan to meet the new prime minister and the foreign minister.
