Hundreds of workers of shoe factories in district Toba Tek Singh took out a rally against their owners for not raising their wages. The rally started from Kamal Chowk Toba Tek Singh and after marching through various roads concluded at the same place. The demonstrators chanted slogans and demanded raise in their wages.
Addressing the participants, labour leaders said that they were being paid the wages fixed in 1989 but since then prices of daily use items have increased manifold due to which they were living from hand to mouth. They said that 'worst' price hike had disabled them to spend their life in such nominal salary. They said that the factory owners earned millions but reluctant to pay proper labour charges to workers. They warned that if their demands were not accepted they would go on for indefinite strike.
