The government should focus on long and short term energy generation projects to overcome energy crisis. Small-scale 50-100 megawatt electricity generation plants should be installed, alternative energy generation like recycling of waste and solar and wind sources should be utilised to overcome the critical energy crisis in the country.
This was stated by President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi here on Tuesday while talking to Maria Kuusisto, Analyst, Asia of Eurasia Group. There is a need to build the confidence of the foreign investors, because they can find tremendous opportunities of greater returns on the investments here, he added.
He said that a negative propaganda is projected about Pakistan in the western media whereas ground realities are different. He also discussed with her various issues concerning security situation, business environment, fiscal and investment policies, privatisation and development in the oil and gas sector. He said that some anti-social elements are trying to create disturbance in the country, which put negative impact on the national economy.
He said that the new government has come up with a very aggressive agenda, which shows its resolve to seriously look after the burning issues. The ICCI President said that government should lay more emphasis on education, because without increasing literacy rate, our nation cannot economically progress with the desired pace.
He said that Pakistan has large coal reserves in the country, which should be utilised for electricity generation. President ICCI also suggested that emphasis should also be given on the development of infrastructure, developing easy and swift transportation from farm to market. He said that government should also put emphasis for laying new railway tracks for speedy transportation of cargo because it will greatly facilitate movement of goods.
