Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has described the manhandling of former Sindh chief minister and the PML-Q leader Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim by the PPP activists as the worst and shameful act in the country's parliamentary history.
While addressing a meeting of PML-Q MPAs from Punjab at his residence here on Tuesday, Pervaiz said the PPP after coming to power is using negative and undemocratic tactics to malign the opposition. In the past, the PPP had invited the wrath of the masses and by encouraging the same, the fate of the PPP would not be different, he added.
Elahi said in the last five-year tenure of PML, the party gave full respect to its opponents and did not register any case against them. He said the PML had extended its unconditional support to the ruling alliance in the best interest of the country and masses saw that the PML had co-operated with the ruling alliance in Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP assemblies.
He said by the manhandling of Dr Arbab Rahim, the actual face of the PPP was witnessed by the masses and such actions were aimed at defaming the country and ruining the atmosphere of co-operation and tolerance. 'Now the PPP leaders were trying to hide the facts about the killing of their leader by staging dramas of probe by different agencies despite knowing the real planners who were involved in such a cruel action, he added.
He said in order to hide the manhandling of Dr Arbab, the PPP had also stopped the broadcasting of different channels in Karachi and other main cities in Sindh.
He termed the incident of stopping the broadcast of channels as undemocratic and an attempt to suppress the independence of media. He held federal government responsible for this action and said it was highly condemnable.
