Photographic exhibition of Cartier, Maubboussin, Van Cleef and Arpel, four French famous designers, will open at the French Cultural Centre (Alliance Francais) on Wednesday (tomorrow) evening. 'Jewels of Indian Princes' will be the theme of the exhibition that will reflect the culture of sub continent by exhibiting the jewels used to be worn by Indian emperors.
These photographs show an array of exquisitely and well-crafted jewels in their intricate workmanship which are deceptively simple to look at. Interestingly, a catalogue, titled Tutti Fruti, published in the USA, reports, Pierre Cartier was asked in 1901 to create from various pieces of jewels, an Indian necklace for Queen Alexandra, Empress of India, and wife of Edward VII.
