NWFP Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Barrister Arshad Abdullah while giving policy guidelines to the authorities of his department has directed that human rights protection, elimination of child labour and creation of awareness in the public about these rights shall be given top most priority.
To achieve this objective, he directed the quarters concerned to make necessary legislation as well as ensure effective implementation of existing laws. Directives to this effect were issued by the minister during the first ever briefing arranged for the minister about the working, organisational structure and future plans of the department at Civil Secretariat Peshawar on Monday.
Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Shahid Nasim Khan and officers of the department attended the briefing. Barrister Abdullah said that three principles were the pre-requisite of a good law, broadmindedness, larger public interest and good faith.
He, in this connection, stressed upon the authorities concerned to follow these principles before drafting any law in order to make it more and more people-friendly and welfare-oriented. Provincial Minister during the briefing was informed about the working, organisational structure, computerisation/networking of the department, digitalisation of library, refurbishment of library with Internet connectivity for online access to laws, establishment of "grievance cell" and network connectivity of Provincial Assembly with law department.
Referring to the demands of the department, Law Minister directed the quarters concerned to prepare a summary and assured redressal of their grievances within a month's time.
