Treasury and opposition members in the National Assembly on Friday condemned publication of blasphemous caricatures in the Danish press and release of an anti-Quran movie by a Dutch parliamentarian on Internet.
On the adjournment motions of a number of lawmakers in the Lower House, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi allowed members to move the motions on the issue and the House strongly condemned the acts, terming these a conspiracy to hurt the sentiments of Muslim all over the world.
PML-N member Haji Mohammad Akram Laghari said that Muslims were hurt by the publication of the blasphemous caricatures in the Danish and Dutch newspapers and asked the government to take appropriate measures to stop repetition of such acts by the western media.
Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi also condemned the blasphemous acts on behalf of the opposition members and sought debate on the issue. Chaudhry Mohammad Barjis Tahir of PML-N said that legislation should be made to suspend diplomatic relations with those countries whose press carries such blasphemous and controversial things.
Noorul Haq Qadri, representing MNAs from Fata, said that due to the blasphemous caricatures published in the press of Denmark and Holland, Muslims were badly hurt and asked the chair a debate on the issue. Later, the chair approved the motions to debate the issue in the House next week by suspending the other business.
