The first curated exhibition at Art Dubai brings a new creative dimension to the fair, giving a voice to emerging artists from Pakistan. 'Desperately Seeking Paradise', which is sponsored by Wateen Telecom, features eleven artists from Pakistan whose work circumscribes the many pathways and many notions of paradise that possess us today.
Amongst the participants are artists such as Rashid Rana, Naiza Khan, Farida Batool, Imran Qureshi and Mohammad Ali Talpur. Set against the backdrop of Dubai, the work reveals a sustained, self critical panorama, equally humorous, argumentative and innovative.
John Martin, Fair Director said 'we are pleased that amongst this year's highlights is a curated show of Pakistani contemporary art.
This exhibition is the first in a series of annual projects that will focus on artists from across the region.' Parallel to the lively individual vision so clearly manifest in the exhibition, a community art project with a select group of South Asian manual labourers in Dubai, is taking place as a social outreach initiative for the fair.-PR
