The 15th death anniversary of Bashir Ahmad Bakhtiar will be observed on April15, 2008. One of the pioneers of labour movement in the country as well as in the subcontinent, Bakhtiar was the founder of Wapda Hydro Electric Central labour union in Pakistan.
He was a great labour leader and dedicated his life for the rights of working people across Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in recognition of his services and contribution towards the working class, gave him a provincial assembly ticket for labour seat from Amritsar. Different labour unions of the country have chalked out programmes to commemorate the late leader and named the Lahore Labour Hall as 'Bakhtiar Labour Hall'.
