Robust upturn sustained in certain essential commodities, while other eased somewhat during the week ended on April 12, 2008. Price changes were in gram garda, gram garda dal, yellow peas Canada, beetle Chana I, beetle 50x50, Irri 9 and Irri 6 Sindh, wheat etc.
On the first trading day Irri 6 Sindh rose sharply by Rs 250 to Rs 3400 and the better type was quoted at Rs 3450. Irri 9 Sindh soared by Rs 200 to Rs 4100 and the better type was quoted at Rs 4200. Wheat however showed weaker tendency and lost Rs 10 to Rs 1700 while better type was quoted at Rs 1800.
On Tuesday grains also showed rising trend as gram garda Punjab gained substantially by Rs 50 to Rs 3650 and better type was noted at Rs 3850. Gram garda dal Punjab inferior type turned higher by Rs 100 to Rs 4200 better quality rose by Rs 200 to Rs 4400.
Yellow peas Canada rose Rs 50 to Rs 3550 and better kind was quoted at Rs 3750, yellow peas dal was quoted at Rs 3850 and better type at Rs 4000. Beetle Chana I rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3850 and Rs 4000, beetle 50x50 rose sharply by Rs 200 to Rs 3950 while other 4 type marked at Rs 4150. Dal beetle low type was higher by Rs 100 to Rs 4400 and better type was seen higher by Rs 200 to Rs 4600. Bajra rose Rs 125 to Rs 1850 while low type was up by Rs 50 to Rs 2200.
On Wednesday except Irri white which turned sharply lower by shedding Rs 125 to Rs 1900, and better types losing Rs 100 to Rs 2000, the rest of the commodities showed both ways movement, nearly marginally. The wheat for example rose by Rs 30 to Rs 1730 while better type was seen at Rs 1745.
Elsewhere Kirana items (per 40 Kg) black pepper shed Rs 700 to Rs 10,300, black pepper from Ceylon shed Rs 500 to Rs 10,000. Big cardamom closed down by Rs 200 to Rs 11,900, cloves turned lower by Rs 500 to Rs 10,000, big cardamom shed Rs 200 to Rs 14200. Dry ginger from China shed Rs 200 to Rs 3000, Isbaghol bhoosi rose by Rs 950 to Rs 14,800, sago rose by Rs 75 to Rs 1800, star aniseed ended down by Rs 400 to Rs 5000 and communiseed shed Rs 400 to Rs 7600.
The trading on jute goods showed mixed trend on Jodia Bazaar on Thursday.
THE CHANGES WERE: JUTE GOODS TWINE (Per kg): 20x3 Brown was quoted at Rs 49, 16x3 CRT/Indus was quoted at Rs 49, 8x3 closed down by Rs 2 at Rs 80 and 40x2 Brown edged lower by Re 1 at Rs 44.
HESSIAN CLOTH (Per 91.44 meter): 45x10 Amin was quoted at Rs 2,150, 45x11 was quoted at Rs 2,250, 50x9. Thul closed higher by Rs 25 at Rs 2,125, 45x9 moved upward by Rs 25 at Rs 2,125, 50x8 Thul went higher by Rs 100 at Rs 1,900. And 45x8 United closed up by Rs 50 at Rs 1,700.
On Friday trading on grain and seeds market was nominal, as usual. Rates stayed put. The trading on chemicals showed mixed trend on Jodia Bazaar on Friday.
The variations were: CHEMICALS (Per kg): Caustic soda flakes Saudi moved higher by Rs 2 at Rs 54.
PETROLEUM JELLY: Sitara caustic soda flakes went up by Re 1 at Rs 55, and caustic Taiwan went higher by Re 1 at Rs 54.
RANGOLITE 'C' (Per pound): China moved downward by Rs 5 at Rs 60.
HYDROSULPHITE: China 88 percent edged higher by Re 1 at Rs 89, Germany closed lower by Re 1 at Rs 103 and India was quoted at Rs 86. ACETIC ACID: Taiwan finished up by Rs 4 at Rs 86 and Korea went higher by Rs 4 at Rs 84.
Some variations were seen on the grain market on Saturday. On the grain side, bajra low type lost Rs 200 to Rs 2050 while better quality did not show any change at Rs 2200. Gur inferior type gained Rs 100 to Rs 1300 and good type maintained its overnight level at 1800. On the seed side, cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh old fine type was up by Rs 20 to Rs 720 while the low variety did not move any side at Rs 650, cottonseed oilcake with bag new were higher by Rs 25 to Rs 795-820.
The trading on plastic moulding compounds closed up on Jodia Bazaar on Saturday.
The following variations were observed: PLASTIC MOULDING COMPOUNDS (Per lb):
LLDPE: W118 closed higher by 25 paisa at Rs 60.50, and 7087 edged up by 25 paisa atRs60.50.
POLYPROPYLENE (Film): Thai closed upward by 25 paisa at Rs 59.75, Kuwait closed up by 25 paisa at Rs 59.75 and India finished higher by 25 paisa at Rs 59.75.
POLYPROPYLENE (Tape Grade): India went up by 50 paisa at Rs 58.50, Kuwait edged higher by 50 paisa at Rs 58.50 and Saudia closed upward by Rs 1.50 at Rs 58.50.
POLYPROPYLENE (Injection Grade): Saudia finished upward by 25 paisa at Rs 59 and India moved higher by 25 paisa at Rs 59.
HIGH IMPACT (Per bag): Pakistani was quoted at Rs 3,540.
