The responsibilities of agriculture scientists and researchers have been underlined to cope with the present flour crises. It is the need of the hour to design a multi-dimensional strategy to over come the crisis with solid mechanism for obtaining maximum yield potential of agricultural and livestock products.
This was stated by the new Vice Chancellor UAF Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing a farewell dinner given for the outgoing VC at the Club Rest House of the university last evening. He said that the rapid growth of population has increased the demand of food, which is a challenge for the agricultural scientists.
The salinity is eating up our cultivable soil resources day by day. Urbanisation is also causing problems for farming community to sustain their agricultural practices, Dr Iqrar added.
He emphasised that biotechnology and genetics innovative approaches should be introduced at small farmers' level in the country to achieve food security and prosperity. Professor Dr Bashir Ahmad the outgoing Vice Chancellor while highlighting the performance and success stories of his 4-year tenure, said that it was the team efforts, which made his tenure a success.
Dr Islamuddin Shehzad, President ASA welcomed the appointment of the new VC and lauded the services of former Vice Chancellor and hoped that UAF will escalate its pace in coming years. Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman, General Secretary ASA, conducted the programme. A large number of Faculty members attended the reception dinner.
