The Government College University (GCU) called a meeting to review the concepts and strategies for improvement in the GCU Lahore societies in the Fazal-E-Hussain Hall of the campus. The Vice Chancellor (VC), GCU, Dr Khalid Aftab said to the participants of the meeting that the GCU was trying to intensify knowledge orientations in its faculty and students.
He said that the GCU offered many discipline that have specific links with the industry and there was a need to improve the GCU societies and civil society interactions that could promote inter-cultural harmony. The VC also urged the in-charge of the societies to enhance mutual interactions and set higher standards so as to improve their performance and efficiency.
Dr Aftab suggested the faculty to carve out history of their respective departments and cited the examples of recently held conferences saying that participants from different countries left useful effect on local audience.
Speaking to the meeting the GCU Chairman, societies' board, Professor Mirza Ather Baig highlighted the working and performance of the GCU societies. He suggested that the societies should evolve both conceptually and modality to cope with the challenges posed to a university by modern changes happening all around.
Further, he stressed that there are 16 university level societies that should promote inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary interaction through mutual collaboration among the societies. The Dean, Languages Islamic and Oriental Learning, Dr Sohail Ahmed Khan, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Dr Khalid Pervaiz, Dean of Sciences and Technology, Professor Dr Amin-ul-Haq and heads of the GCU societies also attended the meeting.
