Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), Vice Chairman, Mohammad Arif Jummani said on Monday that flourmills will be forced to shut down operations in next two days if wheat supply is not restored. He said that the Food Department has stopped wheat supply from April 15, and mills were running for three to six hours a day due to non-availability from any source.
"We have purchased wheat from private sources in the interior of Sindh, but its movement has been restricted under Section 144 in the entire Sindh," he added. Jummani said that flourmills association has held meeting with the Secretary and Food Director Food to seek the availability of wheat for the mills. "Both the gentlemen have assured us that they will convey our demand to high ups in Sindh government and said that supply problem will be resolved in next two days," he opined.
He urged the government to immediately lift the ban on the movement of wheat within Sindh and ensure that wheat must reach flourmills in Karachi. Jummani also urged the government to ensure that traders should not get wheat and only flourmills and chakki owners get the grain.
