NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has directed all the administrative secretaries of the province to give a final shape to the recommendations and proposals for the annual development programme (ADP).
"These proposals should reach the concerned officials in order to allocate funds for uplift activities in the upcoming budgetary allocations in light of these recommendations," he told a meeting of administrative secretaries at his office on Tuesday.
NWFP chief secretary, additional chief secretary and other high-ranking officials were also present in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Hoti said the government officials were members of his team, saying with their joint efforts and energies his government wanted to resolve the problems of the people.
He said getting provincial autonomy, maintaining law and order and good governance were the main objectives of his government. He, however, said these efforts would require the support of the government officials to give these priorities a practical shape.
Commenting on the law and order situation, Hoti said the government was focusing on strengthening the law-enforcement agencies. He said new recruitment will be carried out in the police department and the department will be equipped with latest infrastructure, weapons and allied facilities.
The NWFP chief minister said the federal government would be contacted for assistance while support from international agencies will also be ascertained. "We are desirous to give a huge package to the police officials, as we know the police suffered huge casualties in recent past and sacrificed their lives to rescue the lives of others," said Hoti, adding that his government wanted to see the Frontier Constabulary, Frontier Corps and police stand on their own feet.
He also said some FC platoons had returned from various parts of the country while the remaining platoons would return soon to the province where their assistance for maintaining law and order was inevitable.
"We are politicians and we know how to do good politics. To ensure good governance, the government officials have to support us," said the chief minister.
The chief minister directed the participants to do efforts for encouraging foreign investment, saying for the best utilisation of the resources, investment in various areas were need of the hour.
He asked all the departments to submit their recommendations in accordance with his government's 100-day programme so that work could be initiated on the proposed recommendations.
The chief minister also directed the officials concerned to resolve the girls' college issue in Manserhra on emergency basis. Expressing his grave concern over flour shortage in the province, the chief minister directed the Food secretary to intensify his efforts for bringing the situation under control, saying the Punjab government should be consulted in this regard.
